VCE General Mathematics

Completion of the Year 10 program at St Mary’s College will prepare students for a wide range of pathways into senior secondary studies. At St Mary’s College it is possible for a student to fast track their studies and commence a VCE subject in Year 10. Promoting the opportunity for students to experience a broad, challenging and stimulating curriculum, St Mary’s College offers General Mathematics Unit 1 & 2 to students in Year 10.

Undertaking General Mathematics Unit 1 and 2 in Year 10 provides students with the flexibility when they commence Year 11 to study Further Mathematics Unit 3 and 4 which can provide them with an extra subject to put towards their end of VCE Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR). General Mathematics provides for different combinations of student interests and preparation for study of VCE Mathematics at the Unit 3 and 4 level.

The areas of study for General Mathematics Unit 1 and Unit 2 are ‘Algebra and structure’, ‘Arithmetic and number’, ‘Discrete mathematics’, ‘Geometry, measurement and trigonometry’, ‘Graphs of linear and non-linear relations’ and ‘Statistics’.
